Precious are the Guns of His Saints?

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15)

heresy 4The shooter at Umpqua Community College asked if they were Christians before he shot them (NYTimes). What I find particularly disturbing about this recent shooting is some of the Christians’ defense of their guns. Let me be clear, the issue here isn’t about gun rights, it is about American Christians and their poor testimony. As Christians we have a heritage of martyrdom beginning with Jesus Himself, most of the New Testament writers, followed by a long list of others that hasn’t even ended yet. In fact some say that there have been more martyrs in the twentieth century than the sum of all the preceding ones. [a]

Enough with the Guns, Christians!

The world is violent. It has become so violent that some people refuse to turn on the news. Like in the recent mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, there are varying responses to the increasing violence. But how the world responds is not my focus here.
